About Rachel Toune

I am currently the Communications, Media & Social Leader for Spinal Life Australia, a not-for-profit organisation which supports people with spinal cord damage. This role includes media liaison, internal communications, social media and website management, as well as a range of other tasks.Prior to this role, I worked as a freelance writer and consultant for Positive PR, particularly for Townsville's V8 Supercars event. In addition, I have worked with Local Tickets Pty Ltd as a freelance researcher.I have also worked as a journalist at the Townsville Bulletin, covering a wide variety of topics including business, council meetings, emergency services, health, tourism, education, science and a number of events. During this time, I was given additional responsibility as the acting chief of staff on weekends and on weekdays when the chief of staff was away. This was an important leadership role which involved managing a team of journalists and photographers, liaising with members of the public and sources, and ensuring all deadlines were met at the end of each day.
