Establishing the Biomedical Informatics Center of Excellence (BMICoE) at InformationTechnology Institute (ITI)- the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology(MCIT) to launch the Biomedical Informatics discipline in Egypt. The BMICoE adopts theknowledge triangle model (research, education and innovation).Program I (2007):Establishing a joint Biomedical Informatics Certificate with the Department of Medical Informatics & Clinical Epidemiology (DMICE - http://www.ohsu.edu/ohsuedu/academic/som/dmice/), Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU - http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/), USA.The objectives of this program are: providing a theoretical and practical training; basis for implementing, developing, maintaining and managing information resources and systems in healthcare; and skills in the management of health information, technology, and decision making.Program II (2008):Establishing a Bioinformatics training program. The program aims at providing knowledge and practice of both bioinformatics concepts and cutting edge technologies. Through this program, ITI encourages the integration between biological and information technologies, in order to face new challenges at biological sciences.Program III (2009):Establishing a joint Health Informatics Fellowship program with Ministry of Health (MoH) Fellowship Board (http://www.mohp.gov.eg/egyfellow/). The program aims at educating and training of healthcare stakeholders on health informatics concepts and best practices. Through this program, the gap between the healthcare needs and the ICT capabilities is filled-in.Program IV (ongoing):Establishing a joint Biomedical Informatics Department with Faculty of Medicine-Alexandria University.
