Advances in MINLP for Optimal Distillation Column SequencingAdvisers: Prof. Rakesh Agrawal and Prof. Mohit Tawarmalani- Formulated novel superstructure and Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programs (MINLP) for identifying attractive distillation configurations, for both above-ambient and subambient applications.- The solution of the MINLP remains beyond the scope of the state-of-the-art global solvers, so I have developed novel relaxation and discretization schemes to solve the MINLP. Extensive computational experiments demonstrate that the developed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art.

Co-instructor for "Synthesis of Energy-efficient Distillation and Membrane-based Separations" course.My advisor (Prof. Rakesh Agrawal) and I designed this semester-long course for students in Masters and senior year of Undergraduate programs. It trains students on thermodynamic principles and conceptual design of separation units, and exposes them to recent advances in distillation. Delivered 50% of the lectures and co-authored lecture notes.

Various modes of instabilities have been identified, and the origin of these instabilities is determined from an energy-budget analysis.

Developed a new semi-empirical approach that incorporates the information on microstructure, obtained from TEM and XRD, into existing mesoscale models to predict Youngs modulus of the composite. The predicted results were found to be in excellent agreement with experiments.
