About Rae Corrigan Grove

I am a Research Scientist and Computational Biochemist looking to expand my knowledge and network in the computational biochemistry space because I am interested in further developing my skills in computational method development, molecular simulation, structural analysis, mentorship, scientific writing, and communicationI have used these skills to lead the development and fulfillment of computational chemistry projects for molecular simulation in 2 software packages which aid in computational experiments involving a range of biomolecules from drug-like compounds to proteins and nucleic acids. I have successfully communicated my work to the broader scientific community in the form of 2 first-author publications. I also have experience working with multi-disciplinary teams with a strong ability to learn new methods and techniques as well as investigating, evaluating, and proposing solutions. I greatly value having good mentors and being able to mentor junior scientists. In addition, I have the following skills and experiences: - Research and development expertise with a particular focus on molecular simulation and modeling methods as evidenced by contributing 25,000 lines of code to the FFX open-source platform for computational biochemistry. - Strong communication skills and experience presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences including 4 presentations at national meetings, such as the 2023 Tinker Developer Workshop.- Ability to interface with a scientific team and assist in the handoff of technical information relating to a project, as demonstrated by successfully mentoring three junior scientists. Please connect with me here: corriganraeann@gmail.com

Phd Candidate

Iowa City, IA

The accurate representation of solvation effects is essential for computational molecular simulations of both small molecules and larger biomolecules, such as proteins and nucleic acids. Current gold-standard explicit solvent models represent solvation effects well but are too costly for efficient use with larger biomolecular simulations. Continuum model.

Jul 2019 - May 2023

Graduate Research Assistant

Iowa City, Iowa Area

My current work focuses on determining the structure, function, and thermodynamics of RNA molecules using a combination of physics-based and machine learning methods. RNA aptamers are an emerging class of therapeutics and diagnostics, and aptamer design hinges on the ability to correctly determine the 3D structure of these molecules.

Aug 2017 - Jul 2019

Research Intern

Coralville, IA

Recent studies with CRISPR enzyme mutants have shown that certain mutations can reduce off-target effects without significantly impacting on-target cleavage efficiency. However, the way these mutations act to increase specificity is still largely unknown. Working with members of the IDT bioinformatics team, I implemented computational molecular simulation.

Sep 2021 - Jan 2022

Summer Research Fellow

Greater New York City Area

Through the NIH's Cancer Systems Biology Consortium (CSBC), I had the opportunity to participate in a post-baccalaureate fellowship at Columbia University in the Honig lab. I worked alongside scientists in the Center for Cancer Systems Therapeutics (CaST) to functional annotate proteins identified as master regulators of tumor homeostasis. Additionally, I.

Icru Fellow/Undergraduate Research Assistant

College Of Nursing Building

My work in the Gilbertson-White lab is related to Dr. Stephanie Gilbertson-White's stimulated cytokine project; we are investigating genetic markers in the form of pro-inflammatory cytokines to see if they provide any severtiy implications in cancer patient symptom experience.

May 2015 - May 2017

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Iowa City, IA

My first research project was in collaboration with the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) and involved protein structural optimization of common cancer genes, specifically the BRAF protein. BRAF is mutated in up to 90% of melanomas, making it of particular interest to the HCCC. Using a novel protein optimization protocol developed by the Schnieders.
