Beginning my career in Parks and Recreation initially felt like an unlikely fit with my degree in Human Services. However, I quickly saw the chance to grasp the significance of a community's greatest asset: its people. I had the privilege of developing and nurturing diverse, inclusive programs for a wide range of individuals.I received the 2022 North Carolina Parks and Recreation Association Young Professionals Award for my innovative approach in developing new programs that promoted participation for all. Additionally, I successfully forged new partnerships that resulted in a fresh source of revenue for my department.With almost 12 years of experience in the recreation sector across various roles, I have discovered the importance of open communication in minimizing misunderstandings and fostering trust within my team. Effective leadership hinges on clear dialogue and authentic trust. Currently, my focus is on cultivating a positive workplace culture through empowerment rather than control. My goal is to motivate and inspire my colleagues, helping to develop future leaders who will thrive in their endeavors.When I'm off the clock, you'll find me surrounded by my six furry friends (yes, six!) or paddling away on wild kayaking adventures with a bunch of friends.
