Raed is proud to be a part of the 3000 volunteers known as The White Helmets who have been working in Syria since 2013 in the most dangerous areas to rescue civilians and provide services for them. His goal in life is to rescue civilians, training others in how to rescue and pass on his knowledge and experience he acquired through his fieldwork to people around the world. His work began with a simple statement, "To Save One Life Is To Save All Of Humanity."Before the Syrian uprising Raed was a business man selling electrical equipment. Like many other Syrians, he was forced to flee when the Syrian Regime's Army entered his town in June 2011.However, at the end of 2012, Raed returned to Idlib to provide humanitarian support to refugees and displaced persons. Raed learned about training courses being offered in Civil Defense skills and attended the first course held for Idlib in June 2013. After his teammates elected him as their representative, Raed set up a further 22 teams in Idlib over the next 18 months. In 2014, while responsible for the six hundred volunteers in Idlib, Raed was elected as the head of Syria Civil Defense. He now leads an organization of over 3,000 volunteers. Raed has been honored internationally, including receiving multiple awards for his national and international peace and humanitarian contributions. Among others, he was selected in TIME magazine's list of the world's 100 influential people in 2017.
