I do that by implementing governance, processes, and quality assurance in your project portfolio governance. In doing that, I focus on People, Processes and Technology as the foundations for a successful and lasting Project Portfolio Governance implementation. Yes, it takes effort, time, and money to implement proper project portfolio governance, but relying on chance or luck could cost you even more…PEOPLEI teach and preach the benefits, and costs, by switching to a project portfolio mindset.I work with the Executive Management to prioritize between projects and making sure that the project portfolio is aligned with the strategy.I do One on One sessions with Project Owners on the status of the projects in their portfolios. I provide coaching and support for Project Managers on what should be included in a to-the-point project status as well as helps in facilitating and qualifying new projects. PROCESSESI set up regular reporting intervals for Project Managers using common templates which benefits both the project manager and the recipients. I make sure, that there is a required level of quality in project proposals before they are submitted for approval. This includes valuation of business benefits, alignment with Enterprise Architecture etc.I make sure, that decisions are communicated from management to the respective projects.TECHNOLOGYI implement the technology that is required for project portfolio governance.You might have existing applications that can be leveraged. It might be a dedicated SharePoint site that can act as an overall project portfolio repository or a solution that is acquired for the specific purpose of project portfolio governance.
