Eight years of working alongside small to medium business and not for profit organisations to help make things happen for the people side of their organisations. Loved been self employed, loved the variety of working with so many different clients, loved going beyond just HR in my work. The experience of running my own business, learning with my clients, and networking has been great. Two years as District Governor Elect and District Governor for Rotary have taken precedence and having an impact on time spent on the business and with the opportunity to work for one of my long term clients, I have decided to move back into the world of employment.

Resurrected Kirkman HR Ltd while I keep an eye out for my next great job. KHR is a successful boutique HR consultancy focused on providing a complete range of human resources and employment relations services and support to clients on a contracting and consulting basis, principally in the small to medium business sector and the not for profit/community sector.

This is a fantastic organisation to be a part of. After 6 years as a Board member and a year as Acting Chair, I stepped in the Chair role in Dec 2012. Love the role!!

After 8 years running Kirkman HR Ltd I worked with long term client Life Unlimited as their HR Manager and loved being back at the coalface as well as enjoying the collegiality of working in a great organisation making a difference for disabled people.

•Responsible for a team of HR practitioners (eight FTE) working with managers to provide the full range of human resources and employment relations support and advice including learning and development, health and safety and collective negotiations. •Reported to CEO and participated as a member of Executive Team, ensuring HR has its place in the strategic direction of the institute.•Sponsorship of various change projects involving restructuring and business process re-engineering.•HR Budget of $600,000 and 1,100 staff (750 FTE), wages and salary budget approx $37m.

•Position responsible for developing and managing employee relations strategy for employees covered by collective agreements within the Manufacturing & Milk Supply group of NZMP. •Drafted new people policies for NZMP following the merger of NZ Dairy Group, NZ Dairy Board and Kiwi.

•Responsible for the full range of human resources and industrial relations issues and services for a company of 700 staff on two sites, plus provision of HR services to an on-site joint venture company. •Reported to General Manager and participated as member of Senior Management Team•Managed team of four direct reports and 18 other staff covering H&S, training and development, general HR, payroll, internal communications and employee services and welfare. •HR Budget of $1.2m, wages and salary budget approx $30m. •Led a number of cross-functional change projects and employment negotiations.

HR MANAGER – OPERATIONS September 1998 - April 2000•Reported to the National Operations Leader and participated as a member of National Operations Senior Management Team. Lead a team of five HR and two Health & Safety consultants providing a strong and focused HR service dedicated to supporting 25 operational managers in the Letters Group. •Involved in or lead a number of cross-functional project-based approaches to the introduction of new technology, implementation of learning initiatives, new work methods, organisational change and restructuring. HR CONSULTANT LEADER January 1998 – September 1998•Working team leader of the team of five HR consultants based throughout the country supporting leaders in Operations and Retail providing HR advice and services. •Contributed to HR and business planning, base pay reform consultation, CEC negotiations, implementation of new HRIS, change management processes and introduction of new technology in mail sorting. HR CONSULTANT August 1997 – December 1997•Provision of timely and appropriate general HR advice and support in the Central North island region focused at an operational level across the usual range of HR functions including employment relations, performance management, recruitment, training and development and health and safety.
