Synthetic biology at Fussenegger's Lab.Thanks to the support from the Amgen Foundation, I worked at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering. I cloned and tested constructs to investigate the possibility of building a multi-input synthetic receptor to control gene expression. I also presented a poster of my work at the symposium in Clare College, Cambridge.Techniques used: construct design, restriction cloning, adherent cell culture, transfection and transient expression, colourimetric quantification.

Internship at Professor Hugh Nimmo's lab, funded by the Head of College Scheme.I investigated the effects of protein synthesis on the cold transcriptome of circadian clock proteins in Arabidopsis.Some of the techniques used: growing, treatment and preparation of A. thaliana; extraction and purification of proteins and RNA from tissues; Western blotting; PCR and qPCR; data analysis.

I took part in a research project aimed at identifying the pathogen Dietzia maris and distinguishing it from similar Rhodococcus species.Techniques used: selection of target sequences aided by gene databases, primer and probe design, and qPCR.
