Advocacy Mentor
I took part in Rise Up’s Girls’ Voices Initiative that aimed at empowering girls to become change agents and develop their own solutions to the challenges they face in Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and the U.S. In 2020, Empodera was selected to implement the project in the state of São Paulo, in the city of Santana de Parnaíba, with the support of Fundação Tênis. In this project, I mentored two groups of teenagers, focused on the following topics: (1) gender inequality in physical education classes; and (2) women's insecurity to report situations of violence. I supported the elaboration and implementation of action plans to influence policies at the local level, dialoguing and creating initiatives directly with the Municipality of Santana de Parnaíba (SP), in Brazil. As a result of this work, we managed to instigate a debate about gender inequalities inside the Education and the Woman Departments at the city hall. It was an honor for me to be part of this initiative and to empower such young girls to discuss and demand their social and political rights.
