Rafa is a senior private equity professional with extensive expertise in manager selection, due diligence, and portfolio monitoring. He has a strong track record in sourcing, executing, and managing commitments to premier primary funds and co-investments across buyouts, growth, and venture capital.Before joining the Emirates Investment Authority, Rafa spent 13 years as an institutional investor, leading fund investments and co-investments at influential organizations, including the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation, Allianz Capital Partners, and the University of Texas Investment Management Company.At the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation, Rafa served as a senior member of the Private Equity team, responsible for overseeing global investment diligence in both funds and co-investments. Prior to this, he invested on behalf of the balance sheet for Allianz Capital Partners, focusing on top-quartile middle-market buyout and growth equity funds in the Americas. He also worked at the University of Texas Investment Management Company with a focus on private markets, having begun his career as an investment generalist at the San Antonio Fire & Police Pension Fund.Rafa holds dual citizenship in the United States and Mexico and is fluent in Spanish.
