R1 Heat Ltd was a local Christchurch HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) company that specialized in installing, maintaining, and servicing residential and commercial HVAC systems and equipment.I founded R1 Heat Ltd because I believe everyone should have access to affordable, well-designed heating solutions with quality workmanship. It also allowed me to achieve a better work-life balance, providing flexibility to invest in my passions such as software development, landscaping, trees, and motorbike riding.My responsibilities at R1 Heat included:- Advertising the business.- HVAC design and quoting.- Networking.- Using Xero software for accounting, quoting, and billing.- Completing installations, maintenance, repairs, and after-care services.- Inventory Management- Tool and Equipment Maintenance- Completing and renewing certifications and training- Liaising with clients, trades, and businesses to provide solutions, organize timelines, estimations, scopes of work and the progression of work.During my time working for myself, I completed hundreds of installation jobs, service work, and warranty repairs. I continued to run R1 Heat Ltd in parallel with Dev Academy and then alongside my role at RCS NZ, providing ongoing work, support, and guidance to previous clients.Due to my full-time role as a DevOps Engineer, in August 2023 (one year into my new role), I made the tough decision to close down R1 Heat Ltd.To this day, February 2, 2024, I still haven’t revisited one of my jobs, emphasizing my commitment to delivering a quality job, done right the first time.

Dev Academy is an intensive 15-week full-stack web development training program designed to simulate a real-life working environment. The course comprises an initial 5-week block of self-directed learning, followed by a 9-week intensive coding bootcamp.Throughout the course, participants engage in over 800 hours of coding, covering topics such as Git, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Redux, relational databases, test-driven development (TDD), RESTful APIs, and unit testing. Additionally, the curriculum includes human skill elements and reflection exercises to foster soft skills.Applying Agile methodologies, I worked both individually and in pairs or groups to complete various programming tasks and projects assigned each week. I actively contributed to multiple functioning applications, including a final project that we presented to a non-technical audience.The technical project I am most proud of is Receipt Keeper, an online web app that allows users to log in, store, manage, and reference uploaded receipts. Users fill out a form with details such as expiry dates and warranties when uploading a receipt image. My responsibilities included serving as a Scrum Master, building the Home page, Error page, and setting up database calls/joins, as well as conducting unit testing using React, SQLite, Jest, and NodeJS. I take pride in being an essential part of a functioning team and contributing code that is viable, easy to read, and utilized.

AMT Mechanical & Maintenance, formerly known as AMT Maintenance, is a local Christchurch-based company specializing in commercial and industrial HVAC installations, service, and warranty repairs.As an HVAC Service Technician, my responsibilities included servicing, maintaining, and installing commercial HVAC equipment—ranging from industrial plant rooms to commercial buildings.This role demanded the ability to problem-solve, self-manage time, and communicate effectively with a variety of clients and trades. Working in the commercial/industrial environment required a strong sense of responsibility, the ability to perform well under pressure, and the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team.

Smart Sparks Commercial is a local Christchurch-based electrical company. As the lead HVAC Technician, I primarily focused on residential and commercial installations, as well as handling service and warranty repairs.My main responsibility as the Lead HVAC Technician was to rectify any issues with HVAC work that had been previously completed by other employees.In addition to this, my other duties included training new apprentices and electricians, designing HVAC plans, quoting residential and commercial solutions, and installing, servicing, and maintaining systems and equipment.This role demanded excellent communication skills, quick thinking, and strong organizational abilities. Additionally, I needed to demonstrate empathy and analytical skills while mentoring and assisting apprentices during on-site training and job assessments.

I worked as a qualified HVAC Technician completing residential and commercial HVAC installations and services. During this time, I completed an Advanced Trade - National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Services) Level 5.

I worked as an apprentice learning HVAC installation, servicing and maintenance while I completed a National Certificate in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (Mechanical Services) Level 4.
