Environmental/Human Health Risk Assessment Projects (Role, Client, Description)Task lead, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Oil & Gas Health Risk Assessment: Exposure modeling task, February 2017-present:The purpose of this work was to assist the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) with their health risk assessment of population exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) due to O & G activities. The task involved planning and managing the exposure assessment task, using the APEX (Air Pollutants Exposure Model) and helping evaluate acute/sub-chronic/chronic risks from exposures to 47 different VOCs released during the different O & G activities.Team member, Mountaintop Removal Mining: Impacts on Health in the Surrounding Community,NIEHS/NIH, August 2016-present:A systematic review of the published studies on MTR mining and community health, occupational studies of MTR mining, and any available animal and in vitro experimental studies was conducted, investigating the health effects of exposures to MTR-mining-related chemical mixtures. Specific role included summarizing the exposure literature on MTR mining and if it could directly/indirectly impact human health. Team member, Identification and Adaptation of Human Exposure Models to Improve Exposure Factors in Life Cycle Analysis applied to Products and Articles, U.S. EPA, November 2016-present:This task supports work under the life cycle-human exposure modeling project (LC-HEM). Specifically it supports the creation of the Human Exposure Model (HEM) and the development of associated model inputs. HEM is envisioned to be constructed using improved time-location-activity diary and dietary algorithms and modification of SHEDS-HT modules to support additional pertinent near- and far-field exposure scenarios. This project involves exposure modeling, dose estimation, data manipulation/analysis, using the R programming language.

Toxicology and Human Health Risk Assessment: Reviewed toxicology/epidemiology literature, quantified PFOA exposure using exposure assessment models, risk assessment, set up epidemiology analysis, Pharmacokinetic and statistical models, and uncertainty analysis, assisted in writing grant proposals, presented research in conferences, wrote peer-reviewed manuscripts

Human Health Risk Assessment:Conducted literature survey on toxicology and regulations of CNTs, contributed to NiPERA's project on toxicology of Nickel nanomaterial, contributed to summarizing chemical exposure case material, assisted with other tasks when required

Human Health Risk Assessment: Assisted with the risk assessment of nanomaterials in consumer products with a special focus on CNTs, critically reviewed the state-of-science in nanomaterial regulation and release assessment, identified data gaps, summarized the literature, helped build a nanomaterial risk ranking framework, assisted with client work

Analytical Chemistry: Duties included working in a team to plan and conduct EPA’s standard chemical analyses on industrial samples for regulatory purposes. Tasks included following detailed SOP’s, data analysis, reportage, and maintenance in the LIMS system, help with maintaining the promised client turnaround time.

Ecotoxicology and chemistry: Reviewed environmental toxicology/chemistry literature, studied the environmental fate of chemicals, data analysis, prepared detailed written reports, and presented the results in conferences and helped write peer-reviewed manuscripts
