TouchBistro was founded with a mission to provide restaurateurs with innovative technology that makes running a restaurant easier. Today, Touchbistro offers an all-in-one restaurant management system that includes point-of-sale, payment processing, online ordering, reservations, and more.The Payments team at Touchbistro collects and disburses on behalf of restaurants over $1.4 billion annually and is growing. As the Team Lead of the payments team, I'm responsible for the architecture and delivery of all server-side services related to payment processing and the output of a team of globally distributed development staff, ensuring that we maintain our high bar and commitment to product excellence.

Insights and Consumer-Facing Reporting team helps Touchbistro customers make informed decisions using data generated by Touchbistro's Restaurant Management System. As the Team Lead, I helped Touchbistro transition its legacy data stack built on the Ruby on Rails framework to a modern data stack built using NodeJS and Redshift on an accelerated timeline to help us maintain our budget and realize savings in the millions of dollars annually.In-venue Reports/Insights team which is responsible for: 1) Ingestion / ETL of data from Touchbistro's Point of Sale iPad application to Datalake (AWS S3) (downstream pipeline to Redshift was owned by another team)2) Migrating customer facing reports off a legacy Ruby/Rails/MS-SQL stack to an Node/Express/TypeScript/Redshift data ingestion pipeline.3) Creating in-app reports used by our restaurant customers by querying our Data Warehouse (Redshift)As one of the few engineers at the company with Ruby on Rails expertise, I also assisted other teams on one-off requests and queries to facilitate migration from our Ruby on Rails application.

Chatter Research (acquired by Stingray.com TSX:RAY) helps Retail brands collect in-person feedback using conversational SMS surveys. Our customer include leading brands such as Lush Cosmetics, Purdys Chocolates and Mastermind Toys. As the first engineering hire, I helped re-architect and scale our application from a MVP to an enterprise SaaS solution. Our primary application was built using Ruby on Rails with a Postgres database. The front end was a mix of Vanilla Javascript, jQuery and React components. We also had ancillary services written in Python 3 / Flask / RabbitMQ. Message Oriented Middleware:A RabbitMQ and Ruby on Rails based application that I proposed and implemented. It allowed our application to smoothly handle extremely large spikes in inbound SMS traffic going from a steady state of 1 req/s to 500 req/s in a matter of seconds. It also allowed us to buffer SMS messages during database migrations and other unscheduled downtime. SMS Message Concatenator:A heuristic based system that concatenated inbound multipart SMS messages. The challenge here was, given an SMS message, figure out if there were more pieces to follow or if it was complete. Post implementation this system had an accuracy of 100%.Migrated Customer Dashboards to ReactProposed moving our main customer facing dashboard to a component based architecture using React. Once the project was approved, I vetted, hired and worked with a contractor with React Experience to help us with the migration. Post implementation, time to first load decreased 150x from 15s to 100ms.Other InitiativesUpgrading our Ruby on Rails application, optimizing our infrastructure spend. Championing adoption of development practices such as using pull requests, code reviews, CI servers, testing via RSpec and monitoring using NewRelic.

Careguide used multiple Ruby on Rails applications in a service oriented architecture with mix of Postgres, MySQL and Redis as datastores. The front end was powered by React and serviced by GraphQL endpoints. For infrastructure and deployment we made heavy use of AWS, Docker and Hashicorp suite of tools.I primarily did optimization work on the core CareGuide application helping it handle larger loads via query optimization and caching. I also worked on the HeartPayroll product building an in-house Canadian Payoll calculation Ruby gem. I also helped the Payroll operations team transform certain manual processes to automations that saved them hundreds of hours a month as well as well as reduce the error rate that was an artifact of the manual process.

The app was a Ruby on Rails monolith, MySQL as the DB, Redis, Elasticsearch for catalogue search and RSpec for testing. ElasticSearch + Faceted NaviationWe leveraged Elasticsearch for full text search on our product catalog. I wrote ETL pipelines, worked on our indexing, analysis and wrote and improved our queries to return more relevant results.I was the code owner and built from scratch our faceted navigation feature. Purchase Orders Management / Supplier Relationships ERPImplemented under the guidance of the CTO (Chris Wise), a purchase order management system that automatically generated purchase orders to stock our warehouses in Canada and the US. The system generated projections for each SKU and automatically ordered appropriate amounts from our suppliers.Advanced Refill RemindersThe goal was to improve patient adherence to prescriptions. I built an engine that calculated when a patient was going to run out products prescribed by their practitioner. We leveraged it to send reminders to patients to refill their prescription. I wrote a blog post describing this feature. Reported to the CTO (Amit Sharma) as part of the core engineering group. I designed and implemented APIs that were used to build Zoomcar's iOS and Android apps. The API allowed our mobile apps to search our inventory, reserve a car and capture payment information. I also worked with a third party vendor to test and deploy remote lock, unlock, start capabilities for our vehicle fleet. Both these projects were considered critical to the company's multi-city expansion plan for 2014

AngelHack is a global community that brings together a diverse group of technologists to compete in a 24-hour programming competition. The winner gets an all expense paid trip to San Francisco and an opportunity to pitch their idea to the world's leading venture capital firms and create the next world changing company.As the AngelHack Ambassador for Bangalore, India, I was responsible for the organization of all AngelHack events in Bangalore. Over the course of two years, I organized three sold-out hackathons with 200 participants each, secured a venue sponsorship from Microsoft, India for our event, invited judges, worked with food and beverage vendors, and recruited and managed volunteers to ensure the overall success of the event.
