I have one huge flaw : I dislike manual rutinesMy solution is usually scripting with the best tool available. This days I prefer Docker, perl, python or vRealize Orchestrator.I did even create my own package manager for distributing packages to any UNIX/Linux platform.(Used by some large companies like **ask me** for distributing backup clients, and other small agents).The reason they choose to use this package manager and not a puppet/chef/cfengine solution using native packages is simple: some customers will not or cannot install a config management agent on all serves. My first ever position where I'v been mainly a programmer :-) I was asked to help build a simple script to automatically create multiple virtual vmware servers, and ended up writing a self service portal. The first version was written in perl on both the front/back end. Later we discovered VRealize Orchestrator (vCO), and decided to rewrite the backend in vCO. I did also work with vCAC, and integrated all new VM's as a vCAC object when they was built with vCO.
