About Ragnvald Larsen
Ragnvald Larsen works with the Norwegian Environment Agency, the executive body of the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment. In his current position as a chief engineer with the Directorate he works with serving, using and developing systems for environmental information data management. Procurement of external consultant services is part of this work. Development cooperation is an important part of his work. In this program he contributes to the development of environmental data management systems in countries partner to Norway's development aid programs. Through his work with environmental administrations and NGOs Larsen has become an experienced partner for analyzing and contributing to the further development of national spatial data management in partner countries. Contributions to standardising procedures and methods for sensitivity analysis has become an important part of this work.National projects include wilderness analysis for Norway and Spitsbergen. The current analysis tool for both were prepared by Larsen. Remote sensing (both satellite and drone imagery) and their applications are core arras of work. He is the Norwegian national representative (geo principal) to the Group on Earth Observations (GEO).Larsen was the programme chair for the global FOSS4G conference held in Dar es Salaam in August 2018. He contributes to the yearly FOSS4G conference in Norway through his work in the program committee.Larsen holds a Masters Degree in Geography ("hovedfag") from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
