I am employed as a duty solicitor. I advise and represent clients at the police station and the Magistrates and I am enrolled onto the local duty solicitor rota.

Worked as a locum solicitor for the Crown Prosecution Service. I would prosecute cases before the Magistrates Courts.

Worked as an agent solicitor on a freelance basis for a number of specialist criminal law firms in and around Birmingham. I would be instructed at short notice to represent clients at court and at the police station.

During my training contract I completed training in the following areas of law: General Crime, Personal Injury, Civil Litigation and Housing Law. During my seat in criminal litigation I would represent clients at police stations and prepare cases that were pending before the magistrates and crown courts. I would also conduct advocacy in administrative hearings. During my seat in the housing department I would attend upon clients who were facing possession proceedings. I would take instructions and draft responses to applications made by the landlords, in addition to defending possession proceedings I would also assist the head of the department in the defence of cases involving anti-social behaviour injunction applications made by the landlord. Furthermore I would attend the county court and conduct representations during rent arrear hearings conducted in chambers. In my seat in the personal injury department I would attend to initial client enquires over the telephone in accordance with departmental protocol. Having obtained initial instructions I would seek confirmation from the head of the department of cases to be accepted. I would then attend upon the clients to obtain further instructions and complete the conditional fee agreement. I would then under supervision submit the claim using the online portal system.
