- Developed cutting-edge, highly multiplexed newborn screening assays to quantify biomarkers indicative of inborn errors of metabolism from dried blood spots- Coordinated my own R&D project under ORISE sponsorship to develop cobalamin as a biomarker for B12-affiliated newborn metabolic diseases by running an ELISA to directly measure concentrations of vitamin B12 from enriched serum spots- Improved the accuracy of MS/MS newborn screening assays under ORISE sponsorship by replacing 6 surrogate internal standards with isotopic labeled versions to better the quantitation of biomarkers in the current assay- Prepared samples and analyzing data on a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer for hundreds of samples using computer statistical programs to compile results and generate figures that accurately represent experiment conclusions- Assisted the Newborn Screening Branch with the production of quality control and proficiency testing DBS materials distributed to ~700 laboratories globally- Developed skills in high-throughput sample preparation, sample analysis using flow injection and chromatographic separation coupled to tandem mass spectrometers, and data management using a laboratory informatic system in an ISO accredited laboratory
