Successfully built, scaled and managed businesses across home loans, auto (car and truck) loans, micro-finance, agri-lending, SME & LAP, payments and entrepreneurial ventures, structuring products, teams and processes for maximum efficiency and impact.Recently conceptualised, built and commercialised an embedded fintech business concept, for a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded agritech start up, now being sold to a leading NBFC for scale-up. With a focus on improving financial inclusion, this unique data-led fintech helps lend, collect and provide banking services in a digital manner for small amounts of money to farmers, especially women, in deep rural India. This is empowering nearly two lakh farmers, over 60% women, across 2,600+ villages to have better control on their financial transactions, changing the lives of their families and in fact the villages as well. This innovative farmer payments and credit business has recently been included by RBI as part of its pioneering ULI (Unified Lending Interface) stack.Prior to this, as CEO Retail Financial Services at Jana Small Finance Bank, helped scale and transition a microfinance NBFC into a multi-product bank. For this we scaled the NBFC from 120 to 450 branches across 19 states, tripling the loan book to Rs.9,000 Cr and growing the team to 10,000+ people. Also built a branch banking liabilities business from scratch to 1,500+ people across 250 branches and Rs.3700 Cr of deposits in the first 9 months of operation. This was the best launch of a Small Finance Bank in India.As a Group Business Head successfully built and ran large businesses for ICICI Bank including, as MD & CEO of ICICI Housing Finance, a Rs.70,000 Cr (then $15 Bn) mortgage business across the Bank and the NBFC consisting of Retail Home Loans, Loans against Property, Property Search Services along with Corporate Realty Finance. Led a team of over 1,500 people through the collection and funding challenges of the great financial crisis in 2008-09 and independently raised 12,000 Cr of deposits to fund the business growth. As MD of GMAC–TCFC Finance built a retail car and commercial dealer finance business from scratch for General Motors, which in 3 years, grew to become the second largest business in Asia.
