About Rahul Roy
I am a bioengineer who wants to catalyze the widespread adoption of 3D printing through product development and applications engineering. For Desktop Health, I guided products such as the Einstein and SmileGuard through the product development process, using technical expertise to bridge gaps between the process and product specific needs. I created product pipelines across hardware, materials, and software by assessing customer needs and the competitive landscape. With CELLINK, I built a customer support infrastructure to improve response time, increase customer satisfaction, and pinpoint critical areas of improvement for CELLINK products. I assisted the sales team in helping companies, hospitals, and universities understand how our bioinks and bioprinters, such as the BIO X, can help them achieve their research goals.I then took on the role of Product Manager/Owner of the Lumen X, working with Volumetric to define the portfolio, features, target customers, applications, scale-up manufacturing, and establish quality standards. Using customer feedback, we refined the product to introduce the Lumen X+, which matched the Lumen X install base in a manner of months. At EnvisionTEC, I performed applications-related responsibilities similar to those of CELLINK. I also supported and installed EnvisionTEC’s entire line of DLP stereolithography (SLA) 3D-printers.Through demonstrations and workshops at the Children's Museum, I explain the benefits of 3D Printing and how to use a 3D printer to visitors who have never been exposed to the technology. In addition, the workshops enable children with minimal access to hands-on learning to believe in their own capabilities to create. During a summer program at Rice, I helped teach middle school girls how to use TinkerCAD and the Arduino to build the Carduino, a Bluetooth controlled RC car with 3D printed headlight mounts. I have experience with different CAD programs and suites such as IronCAD, OpenSCAD, Rhino, and Inventor.
Listed skills include Matlab, Arduino, Ni Labview, 3D Printing, and 19 others.

A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Director Of Global Product Development
- Guided dental 3D printer hardware, resins, and cloud software by coordinating a globally distributed team through product development processes, resulting in the launch of Einstein and 3 resins and foundational process.
- Improved accuracy of launch timelines on the order of months to quarters by harmonizing disparate product development processes from across the organization and adding unaccounted deliverables
- Averted product launch failure by crafting requirements documents in Jama, from user to engineering, which helped reveal one product that did not perform in line with its price and positioning
- Developed product roadmaps guided by customer needs, broader business strategy, and knowledge of the competitive landscape to communicate to DM and DH management
Product Owner/Manager
- Promoted to Product Management organization to facilitate the development and launch of the LUMEN X in partnership with Volumetric; Sales yielded an install base of ~$2 million worth of units and 10 publications
- Facilitated product development and release despite limited resources by personally creating support documentation, marketing collateral, QC checks and more
- Enabled the acquisition of Allegro 3D by investigating new technology to add to the bioprinting product portfolio and validating product quality, capability, and alignment with business area strategy
Lead Technical Specialist/Applications Engineer
- Implemented support team infrastructure and provided both pre- and post-sales support; Enabled >$600k in sales through demo tours and sales engineering calls
- Expanded depth of information captured by support platform, Freshdesk, which enabled team compliance with warranty policy and provided R&D with visibility for field-issue prevalence
- Mentored 4 interns through their time at CELLINK with patience and fostering creativity, which resulted in 2 returning to CELLINK and 2 remaining in the biotech industry
Service And Application Engineer
- Showcased the capabilities of the 3D-Bioplotter at conferences, trade shows, and sales visits. Technical sales support led to machine sales totaling $2.2 million
- Supported and installed the Bioplotter, Perfactory, Desktop, and Micro 3D Printers through phone, email, and customer site visits, developing a reputation for solving problems that puzzled supervisors
- Devised a support case categorization system that quantified issues in product releases, providing clear direction for R&D and QC departments
