My role was to support survivors who were or had been in abusive situations within the home. I would help develop a safety plan and provide resources for survivors looking for help within whatever circumstance they found themselves. Many were in situations where they were ready to leave or had already left and many who just needed an understanding ear and someone to validate their emotions. I organized and ran group support sessions to create a community atmosphere for the survivors we served and answered our Domestic Violence Hotline to support anyone who came across our phone number.My colleagues and I would also develop and present healthy relationship seminars within schools and we would create flyers and connect with other community partners to reach out to people who might be experiencing violence in their homes.

This position was a small promotion that was added onto my normal Senior Program Coordinator duties. I was responsible for fostering relationships with other organizations in the community to provide volunteers with valuable training and resources for the families for which they worked. This included scheduling and coordinating of speakers and training locations and managing the website calendar, resources and community partner pages on the CASA Website. I used Google Forms and Survey Monkey to identify training needs among the volunteers and continuously worked to discover useful resources such as clothing, food, and extra-curricular activities for children.

I supported the volunteer advocates who worked directly with children who had open Dependency & Neglect cases in the court system. This included coaching for advocates that were involved in crisis situations concerning the child and or their families, provided services to help resolve conflict among the volunteers and the families or attorneys, caseworkers, and judges, and ensured necessary paperwork and court reports were completed in a timely and professional manner. Part of this position was to manage data bases that tracked advocate activities and their required ongoing training. My colleagues and I all were also responsible for a specialty support area to best support advocates who were managing cases with different types of abuse. My specialty support area was around sexual abuse which included juveniles with sexual offending behaviors, prevention, sex trafficking, and sexual trauma. This also included training volunteers who worked directly with a child who had sexual offending behaviors in Informed Supervision to keep everyone in the safest possible position.

I was tasked with assisting in planning fundraising events to benefit the financial health of the organization which included making phone calls or personal contacts with potential sponsors for events, planning and securing decorations, and securing donated prizes and auction items. I also helped in managing data bases to track donors and their donations in order to send thank you notes for their support. My work in this internship lead the organization to hire me as a full-time Senior Program Coordinator.
