Raina Bhartia (b. 2000, Kolkata, WB) is an Indian experimental narrative filmmaker and photographer based in Boston, MA. In her personal work, Bhartia displays a sensitivity to shared human experiences and considers how emotional connections shape self-identity. Her film Failing The Female was inspired by the women in her life and written to acknowledge their collective friction with womanhood. Her current short film project, Burning Amber, portrays a couple's departure from codependency, and it is expected to preview in early 2024. Raina received her BFA for Photography and Film/Video at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She is currently working as a Creative Director at Engram Design Studio in India. Her commercial work has been featured in Rolling Stones India publication (2021); and her series of metal laser-etched photographs were displayed at the Heat and Health Fair at The Museum of Science, Boston (2022). Her 2023 collaborative multimedia installation, Spectral Strata, including photographs sewed into fabric and experimental video projection was exhibited at Gallery 51 and Arts/Design Lab in North Adams, MA. Her documentary short film about construction waste, Malba, made under the Ciné Impact Film Fellowship won an award at the International Science Film Festival, New Delhi (2022). She has also displayed her artwork in non-profit galleries in her hometown, Kolkata.
