Advisory role to help define new mobile and web application offering.

Granite Networks Inc is a vendor and carrier neutral hosting company built with Tier 3 and LEED standards in mind, offering colocation, managed services, and cloud hosting services to small and medium businesses in the Ottawa area and beyond. This specialty data centre focuses on four main features: carrier neutrality, support for high densities, high reliability, and legendary customer service.Brought in by the Board of Directors to replace the co-founder CEO. Was responsible for adjusting the management team and providing ongoing guidance for the other co-founders. Raised $2M of financing for working capital purposes. Improved businesses process and upgraded sales management systems. Worked with virtual CFO and Chairman to sell the company to Rogers Business Services for $6.25M and ensured that investors had their investment returned.

After leading a $600K equity investment round and a $500K convertible debenture investment round, engaged with the company to build out the sales and marketing initiatives and to continue to assist in raising financing. During this period, implemented a new comprehensive website and CRM system, marketing campaigns, developed the marketing team and sales team. Worked at the Board of Directors level on issues of governance and strategy.

Technology investment officer focused on seed and early stage investments in the telecommunications sector. Completed two investments in semiconductor companies in Ottawa: Seaway Networks and Intelligent Photonic Control.

Second round investor and business manager for an early stage high technology delivering web-based business applications and Internet services targeted at the hospitality industry vertical. Responsible for developing corporate strategy, writing the company’s business plan, recruiting the senior management team and raising venture capital funding.

Founded and developed Canada’s largest independent national internet service and solutions provider. From a management buyout in June 1994 with revenues of $50,000 per month, built a business generating $3,000,000 per month in January 1997. As Founder and President, I also lead the team that raised $76 million through an IPO and secondary financing during the early development stages of the company. iStar was bought by PSINet.

As Vice President, Technology, I developed an engineering group to handle the company’s network design, new product development and service offering deployment. Various facets of the group’s responsibilities involved application engineering support, technical training and operations support. Management of interoperability testing and liaison was required with various carriers as well as the manufacturers Newbridge and Northern Telecom.

In my role as Director, Application Engineering, I was responsible for managing eight engineers who provided a high level technical service to corporate network clients. My duties include budget preparation, capital goods purchasing and general technical administration. The major areas of work have included project management of problem accounts, client liaison and corporate training program development. These clients included Telmex, the Chilean Telephone Company and numerous telephone administrations throughout the United States.

I was a co-founder and principle in a successful start-up data communications company that was subsequently sold to Newbridge Networks Corporation. I designed and developed a micro-processor based data switching unit for terminals and computers. Other duties included acting as liaison between design and manufacturing and giving technical product presentations.

At Mitel Corporation I was a system designer in the Design Verification department assigned to the SX2000 class of digital PBXs. In this role, my duties included the design of a sophisticated, state-of-the-art computer controlled automated feature exerciser for the SX2000 PBX. I provided extensive system and user application documentation, training courses, system integration, test and manufacturing co-ordination.

At Systemhouse, I provided support services to clients of the Graphics Division. I was responsible for the design of computer systems and consulting on system proposals and planning. Other projects required the delivery of AUTOMAP and AUTOCHART computerized mapping systems to the Government of India. This required the delivery and assembly of numerous computerized digitizers, computers and high quality photo-plotting devices. I developed a three month long training program for the client's service engineers and also developed an integrated test package for system commissioning.

As a design engineer, I was responsible for the implementation of digital computer controlled instrumentation for a portable precision satellite navigation receiver. My duties included the design and implementation of interfaces for a data cassette recorder and industry standard magnetic tape drives. I also developed a complete software floating point and mathematical functions package for the navigation receiver. Other duties required that I provide on-site installation and customer equipment training for the Brazilian Army, Malaysian Survey Department and Indonesian Survey Department.
