About Ra Inta

When I was four, I wanted to be a fire-engine driver — until my mother put me in a five-cent rocket ship ride. At that point it was clear I needed to be what I called a 'Space Scientist'. Since then, I have been an intrepid scientific explorer, applying that passion and curiosity to anything I can find!I simply love the confluence of seemingly disparate fields. My Physics PhD was on the "Acoustics of the Steel-string Guitar," which was a very happy marriage between music and science. As it happens, an intimate knowledge on how vibrations travel through wood is useful for manipulating termites (yes, you read that correctly!) I showed that you can put them off eating wood by playing their own vibratory alarm signals back to them. Knowing how to analyze these different types of signals turns out to be useful in the hunt for ripples in the very fabric of space-time itself; namely a prediction of Albert Einstein's known as gravitational waves. By 'listening' to space, our collaboration (LIGO) saw the first black holes colliding and figured out where Earth got all its gold from, resulting in the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics.Currently, I spend my time teaching and consulting in the Data Science space, with a broad spectrum of companies and organizations, large and small.
