Costin Grigore is a Senior Java Backend Engineer at Regnology. From his interview until last day of our collaboration he has proven exceptional skills as architect, developer and team leader. He brought the DEV Team under his command very close to an exceptional milestone – the delivery of an "EESSI" production-grade prototype for coordinated electronic documents exchanges between public administrations of EU countries. Hopes of high management that there is project safety by associating EESSI with a big name in software industry means that we open the door to pre-built technology and that we have to loose Costin. I believe it is our loss more than his. First and foremost, Costin delivers and his commitment to the task and deadlines are exceptional. Second, Costin is extremely well in touch with technologies. Where he stands out is choosing what to use and what not to use. All too often in Java world we see people "in love" with technologies. In contrast, Costin is using his knowledge span and analytical sharpness for making an unbiased choice, adequate to the problem-to-solve rather than fitting his "technology preference". Third, Costin organizes the team and positions it for success. Source control, continuous integration, communication tools (such as wikki, Jira), best practices, all are set in place by him and coordinated within the team, so at any point there is clarity on the day-to-day software development processes. He follows a long-term perspective: eliminating ballast code and practices, fostering transparency rather than formation of knowledge islands, encouraging individual growth and role switching, designing in open sessions, etc Fourth, when it comes to development Costin is a power house: external-code refactoring and hardening under tremendous pressure, good-quality deliveries within ambitious timeframes, from-scratch development of software, with well scaled approach on technical challenges. He designs in open sessions, he coordinates firmed-up topics to his team, and he analyses and implements the more complex ones. The prototype his team developed is robust, powerful yet compact; it can be deployed virtually in any enterprise IT ecosystem. It has been presented to representatives of countries in live presentations, being appreciated as "impressive". It has been superior to any other candidate prototype on any objective measure (e.g. state of readiness  time to release, testing status, etc.) The high management decided for an alternative technology that links the project to a reputed software producer, underpinning a vision for EESSI which is yet to bear fruits. In the meantime Costin's prototype remains a library of ideas and innovations that, in my view should make it to the EESSI product, for it to be successful.", "Great Leader, awesome programmer and even better human!!
