Member of the DevOps Infrastructure Compute Team in the HPC (High Performance Computing) group.Supported a large, heterogeneous data center for chip design in the Americas region:· Supported over 200k compute nodes, of which about 20k were critical infrastructure servers.· Responsible for hardware, operating system and software maintenance including installation, configuration, diagnostics, and upgrading systems to latest vendor supported SUSE or Ubuntu OS.· Worked with geographically dispersed teams (from Americas, Europe, and Asia) and stakeholders ranging from IT partners (including on-site datacenter and network teams), cross functional teams within HPC (Compute and Storage teams) and Intel chip design engineers.Developed and maintained reboot patching automation to increase efficiency and reduce lead time on patching and maintaining HPC servers – automation written in Python and Bash scripts:· Reboot patching automation opportunistically patches systems during startup, shutdown, and reboot.· Collaborated with HPC Linux OS engineering, HPC security engineering and HPC hardware/firmware engineering teams to implement automated OS/BIOS patching on reboot.· Automation deployed globally in multiple datacenters using configuration management solutions such as CFEngine.Contributed unit test cases in Python for CI/CD Jenkins pipeline to speed up validation of next-gen SLES15 OS (SUSE Linux).Co-lead long term 18-month project to switch from costly proprietary VMware virtual machine hosting platform to free open-source KVM (Linux Kernel Virtual Machine) solution:· Collaborated with stakeholders to establish scope and project features: over 2000 VMs to migrate.· Coordinated with server owners on proprietary platform to migrate to new environment.· Multi-millions in cost savings in yearly expenses (license costs, maintenance/service agreements).
