I have completed my Bachelors of Science in Microbiology from University of Mumbai. During this time, I have actively participated in various summer internships from Clinical Microbiology and Management to Dairy industry. I pursued my Masters in Virology from the National Institute of Virology, India. As part of my curriculum, I learnt about various viruses, its propagation, its epidemiology, host’s immunology and worked on a dissertation project at the end of the two years. This project ‘Development and Qualification of viral detection assays for CHO derived unprocessed bulk harvest’ was conducted at Syngene International Limited, Bangalore under the guidance of Dr Rahul S. Fadnis. While working towards my goal of achieving a PhD position abroad I worked as a Project Assistant in the Department of Biochemistry under Prof Utpal Tatu, for 9 months at Indian Institute of Science. My project was associated with understanding the prevalence of various protozoan and bacterial diseases in veterinary animals using the molecular technique of Polymerase Chain Reaction. I have worked in the Virology Department at Biovet Pvt. Ltd. where I was handling propagation and quantification of virus titre along with maintaining various cell lines.I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Microbial Biodiversity at Curtin University, Malaysia. I am well trained in techniques like cell culture, PCR, microbiological techniques, and various immunological techniques. I believe if given an opportunity, I would work, adapt, and significantly contribute to this field.

My project involved identification and detection of various infectious diseases of veterinary animals using the technique Polymerase Chain Reaction. I have handled various types of samples including blood, nasal swabs, dung samples. I am skilled in DNA/ RNA extraction from samples as well as cDNA synthesis. I have also learnt mice handling and parasite counting. I have carried out Giemsa staining for detection of parasites from the animal blood samples. I have also had two experiences of field work. I also got an opportunity to perform techniques like Urea PAGE, SDS PAGE, agarose gel electrophoresis. Simultaneously I have also assisted other PhD students in small ways for their projects. I conducted a workshop for college students demonstrating common scientific experiments at school and college level. -
