I’ve spent my career working on big ideas and technical breakthroughs, first at PARC and now Google X and DeepMind.While at Xerox PARC, my team and I invented and commercialized ultrasonic biometrics, now a Qualcomm product, and digital medical radiography, now a ubiquitous technology. For two decades I've engaged with professionals across various industries to understand their challenges and help devise solutions. My forte is creating prototypes that can be transferred to specialized development teams. I’m currently leading a team aiming to revolutionize electronics in a post-Moore’s law world. Previously, I launched Malta Inc, an X project that is now a Gates-funded start-up providing grid-scale energy storage making renewable energy cheaper and more reliable than coal.I was educated at Stanford and Berkeley and hold 85 US patents and have published 76 technical articles.Outside of work I enjoy roasting coffee, brewing beer (both solid- and liquid-state fermentation), and using my home-made pizza oven, espresso machine, and coffee grinder. My newest passion is gardening, and I'm working on new varieties of feijoas and loquats.
