As WASH Specialist, I was responsible for providing technical assistance to the government of Uttar Pradesh achieving objective of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and lending strategic leadership to WASH-Nutrition programming in the state.

Bihar hand washing project is implemented by HUL in joint collaboration with government of Bihar with funding from Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) & HUL. Project targets to reach 9 million children and their mothers by end of 2018. The project intends to reduce morbidity related to diarrhoea & pneumonia and thereby helping children to reach 5 years of age healthy. Managing project operations- field deployment, finance, and administrative responsibilities for large team of 300 people on the ground. This also include providing oversight to continuously improvise the engagement strategy to have better impact of messaging on the target population.

The work involved providing technical assistance to Public Health Engineering department at state and district level for implementation of its flagship programme Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). Key Performance Areas:Policy framework strategy development:• Providing techno-managerial support to state programme management unit and district programme management unit for SBA (G). • Helping state government in translating national guideline in state specific context for achieving higher sanitation coverage and keep pace with national policy priority.Capacity Building• Providing techno-managerial support to National Rural Livelihood Mission (JEEVIKA) and World Bank funded project in programming their sanitation component including manpower planning, training, deployment, and monitoring.• Extending help in rolling out district wide communication campaign for achieving habitation open defecation free (ODF) status and take districts on the path to ODF. Learning and sharing• Writing advocacy papers, background note, and documenting best practices for various programming. Networking:• Developing a strong network at district and state level actors from both governmental and non-governmental sectors.

Bhopal And Jaipur

Worked as team leader to one of the emergency nutrition projects focussed in two districts- Shivpuri and Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh funded by ECHO. The strategy focussed on strengthening current nutrition services of ICDS and piloting Community Based Management of Severe and Acute Malnourished Children (CSAM) in select blocks. Key Performance Areas:Project Implementation and Partnership Management• Developing and managing Project Cooperation Agreement (PCA) signed between implementing partners and UNICEF.• Providing techno managerial support to field teams in successfully implementing the project in both districts.Documentation • Documenting project activities and representing project in district and other such forums at state level.• Preparing dossier for quarterly visits of donor delegation. Capacity Building• Helping government in operationalizing L-1 facilities across states to ease pressure on higher level facilities.• Providing technical assistance through building and operationalizing Skill Labs to train front line workers on mandated skills to provide services.Documentation • Preparing documents highlighting technical assistance of the DFID towards improving health status of people in state through SWASTH. • Other policy documents helping the government specially towards institutionalizing quality assurance initiative in Bihar. Worked as an epidemiologist under the Integrated Diseases Surveillance Project (IDSP) at Vaishali district. This project aimed at collecting real time data on disease outbreak and working towards effective rapid epidemic response in case of outbreak. Roles involved collecting the identified diseases data from health facilities under govt. and private sector; analyzing those and transmit them to the higher level state surveillance office and IDSP division, National Institute of Communicable Diseases New Delhi.

Worked as Programme Coordinator for the state of Bihar. Key Performance AreasProviding technical assistance to state health society, Bihar (SHS Bihar) in implementation of national rural health mission• Provide help to state PMU in effective implementation of Community Processes under National Rural Health Mission- Rogi Kalyan Samiti, ASHA, Village Health and Sanitation Committee.• Extend help in training of district PMU in preparation of District Health and Action Plan under NRHM. Coordination of community health fellowship programme in the state initiated in collaboration with ICICI centre for child health and nutrition, national health system resource centre, search • Community Health Fellowship aims at building capacity of select professionals in facilitating community processes of NRHM at district level.• This included regular communication with them, participatory planning of activities in the districts, monitoring of deliverables and onsite support for training and capacity building.Expanding civil society – public health activists- academics network in the state. • Contacting, informing and collaborating with civil society – public health activists- academics for expanding the network in the state. • Organizing core committee and resource group meeting on regular basis.

Worked as Consultant- Technical Assistance and Research with UHRC- Urban Health Resource Centre, a non profit company based in Delhi. It was nodal technical agency to GOI for planning and implementation of urban health programmes/urban RCH. It provided technical assistance to MoHFW on proposed NUHM and helps various state governments to plan and implement urban health programmes in cities.Key Performance Areas:Programme monitoring & managing information system • Development of tripartiate Public- Private- People partnership with Non- Government Organisation for provision of RCH services in urban slums of Indore and Agra.• Support to urban health programming in Agra, Indore and Delhi - Data analysis and capacity building of field staff to bridge information gap. • Quarterly programme review of Agra Urban Health Programme- Desk Review, Onsite monitoring support and preparation of review report.Community organization & capacity building • Master trainer for ASHA training in the North East District of Delhi. Worked as programme co-ordinator to project Sampark- the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) & SARD (Society for all Round development). The project focussed on improving health of community living around the unit. The interventions focussed on maternal and child health issues, diseases- tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
