Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Open Window School, Bellevue WAHelping to promote the school’s diversity mission in ensuring that everyone is seen, heard and valued and feel a sense of belonging. I work closely with HR Director focusing on recruiting, hiring, and retaining. I train our hiring managers to look for cultural competency in the hiring process. I co-chair the Board Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee which is comprised of Senior Administrators and Board of Trustees. With the Committee I led efforts in developing the school's first diversity strategic plan that encompasses clear goals, outcomes, accountability, timeline and key performance indicators to measure the success of our school's diversity efforts. I also lead Diversity Roundtable discussions for the entire school community on diversity related issues. I established the IDEA (Inclusion Diversity Equity and Accessibility) and the GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) clubs for our middle school students. I also established the Staff of Color Affinity Group meeting monthly. I collaborate with other Seattle area schools’ DEI Directors to promote diversity, most recently co- hosted the first independent schools Families of Color Gathering. In addition I train staff on DEI issues, with most recently a workshop on implicit bias training and how to engage constructively in difficult conversations. I hold spring and fall community book discussions. These included, So You Want to Talk About Race, This is How It Always Is, How To be An Anti-Racist, Caste and The Making of Asian America. Lower School Technology Specialist K-4th Grade at Open Window School. 21st Century Learning Skills are used to teach students programs to enhance their computer skills such as typing, Office Suite, programming, multimedia tools, video animation, robotics and digital citizenship. A few of the hands on tools I use are MakeyMakey, BeeBots, WeDo Legos, app controlled robots such as the Sphero and Dash & Dot, mBots and we use the full library of LittleBit electronics for circuit building. In addition to teaching students, I also support teachers with integrating technology needs in their curriculum such as the use of Voicethread and GoAnimate. I was also the Administrator, Assessment Coordinator, and Proctor for the MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) assessment which is a standardized computerized test that has replaced the ITBS in our school. I’ve trained teachers K-8 how to proctor and properly utilize the MAP testing process. In addition, I was also the Administrator for our curriculum mapping platform, Atlas, and our online math platform PearsonSuccessNet/Realize.
