I had chosen Biotechnology as my subject of interest as it provides immense opportunities to serve the society by opening up numerous fields of research to choose from. For my masters dissertation I worked on “Molecular Effect of Cisplatin on DNA Damage Repair in Hormone Receptor Positive Breast Cancer Cell”. During my project I got an idea about the field of cancer biology and the significance of the signaling mechanism. In the study we aim to analyze the role of certain membrane receptors which are group of proteins found in and on certain cell types- the Estrogen receptors, in DNA damage repair and its association breast cancer tumorigenesis. The ability of ER deficient and proficient cells to respond and to and repair DNA damage was further analyzed by scoring the recruitment of the damage response protein H2AX in both conditions Following my post graduation my teachers were very supportive in helping me choose the path of research. Thus, I attempted national entrance exams and cleared NET exam. In the meantime I underwent a six months industrial training program sponsored by DBT and conducted by BCIL.I did my training in SciGenom Pvt Ltd. My project focused on “Expression and Purification of Fab . During my tenure I got hands-on -experience in Protein Expression, Isolation and Purification all of which I found interesting. My tenure in the company helped to develop a broad outlook on the industrial environment. However, it also became clear to me that academia is a better suited environment for learning and career growth. As a result I joined DR ,Kalika Prasad’s lab in IISER TVM as JRF. My project focused on de novo shoot organogenesis on Arabidopsis. I am also involved in a project which focuses on in functional characterisation of regulatory networks involved in the reproductive development of rice.
