When Rajinderjit was young, the violence in India in 1947, after Partition, forced her family to move. She and her family were separated from her father without their knowledge of his whereabouts. That mayhem and destruction between religious groups, and the suffering that was caused, would have a lasting impression on her heart and mind. The journeys of the Sikh prophet Guru Nanek, to promote equality and freedom–social, economic and religious–for both men and women, became the inspiration for Rajinderjit’s own life journey. She too has a strong desire for such equality, an alleviation and ultimate end of suffering and conflict. She has dedicated herself to these ideals through the power of education.Rajinderjit earned advanced degrees in education, political science, language and religion (Gyani). She has taught students from elementary to college level for 35 years, in India and the US. Her work is dedicated to educating, expanding the minds and hearts of people in her community and the global community. She has devoted her energy to three primary areas: the first is focused within her tradition of Sikhism; the second in the arena of interfaith projects and relationships; the third relates to women’s issues, and all three have an emphasis on education. These issues and groups frequently merge, allowing her to express herself in totality, as a Sikh, a woman, and a member of humanity.
