As Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, I had the rank of a Cabinet Minister. I reported directly to the Prime Minister who is the Chairman of NITI Aayog. I interacted with all Central Government ministries all the State Chief Ministers who are members of NITI Aayog's Governing Council. I was also the Chairman of the Atal Innovation Mission with its mandate to establish an innovative eco-system in the country. NITI Aayog nurtured and promoted several important and crucial initiatives like Zero Budget Natural Farming (Agro-Ecology); Electric Mobility; Monitoring and Evaluation of Central Government Ministries on the basis of Output-Outcome Framework, undertaken by the DMEO (an affiliate of NITI); Reforms in the Hydrocarbon and Mining Sector; Sustainable Development Goals - their localisation; Setting up tripartite consultative groups (academia, industry and civil society) for each of the twenty seven verticals covered by NITI Aayog etc.

I was the resident economist at the CPR. Completed the World Bank sponsored project on Relationship of Indian States with Neighboring countries. Started publication of SAARCIST, a digital journal covering current developments and sector themes in South Asian countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka).

Presented the quarterly macro-economic review to the National Council of CII. Also partnered with the World Bank on Ease of Doing Business Survey. Initiated the Program of Members of Parliament Visit to Japan. Collaborated bilaterally with chambers of commerce in partner countries.

I worked in three positions in the ADB. Country economist for China and Mongolia; Research Economist in the Research and Economic Analysis Department of the ADB; Principle Regional Economist for the Central Asian Republics (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). I also worked on the development strategy for Myanmar and Regional Cooperation in Central Asian Republics and South Asia.

Appointed by the UPSC, I was a member of the team of economists working under the Finance Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and Mr Montek S Ahluwalia during the critical reform period of 1991 to 1995. The team was led initially by Dr Ashok V Desai and subsequently by Dr Shankar Acharya. My two principal responsibilities were Balance of Payments and Telecom Sector Reforms. India became a signatory to Article VIII of the IMF during my tenure and the First Telecom Policy was also announced in this period.

Taught full courses of Competitive Strategy and Industrial Economics to first and second years students of Masters Program in International Business. Worked closely with Department of Commerce on developing India's negotiating position for the Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations of GATT/WTO

Specialised in Indo-European Economic Relations and International Competitiveness of Indian Industries in the Open Economy Framework. Plus worked on South Asian Economic Cooperation specially India- Pakistan and India-Sri Lanka economic relations
