Penkar’s group has developed and implemented configurable solutions that address the specific needs of their clients and give them a sustainable competitive advantage with not only reduced costs, but also accelerated cycle times, improved cash flow and customer service as a differentiator. Prior to this assignment with a broader focus for supply chain management, Penkar led a management consulting group within the company that facilitated global integration of UPS small package services with large company ERP systems and standardized processes for multiple locations. His UPS background also includes strategic technology planning and management, where he was instrumental in developing technology for data acquisition, label imaging and storage, bar codes, optical character recognition, and high-density package coding systems. Penkar also served as a founding member of the firm's original research and development organization in Danbury, Connecticut where he assisted in building the transportation industry's leading engineering and scientific staff and an approach to pilot testing and scaled implementation Prior to UPS, Penkar worked as a principal member of the technical staff for a robotics firm and for a power plant simulation company. He holds 15 patents in robotics and logistics processes and has published several articles on data acquisition and industrial automation. Penkar holds his MS in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University and completed his undergraduate work from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.
