About Rakesh Shah

I have more than 13 years of experince in community development focused to rural infrastructures, rural renewable energy technologies, climate change adaptations, climate smart agricultural practices, community based disaster risk reduction and management, early warning systems, community resilience and resilient livelihoods. I have worked with different development organizations like United Nations Volunteer (UNV), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Save the Children, Practical Action, Lutheran World Relief (LWR/CORUS), Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) etc. I am experienced with the Project Management; project design, planning, implementation, monitoring, documentation, reporting, learning etc. I am also family with donors priorities, compliances and requirments like USAID, KOICA, EU, UKAID etc. I have also developed 2 successful proposals of more 1 million USD. In the past 6 years I have managed projects more than 3 million USD.I am a Netherlands Fellowship Program (NFP) scholar and completed by MSc from the Wageningen University and Research Center (WUR). I have visited more than 15 countries and have work experience in Nepal and India. My interest lies in community based DRRM, early warning systems, climate change adaptations, anticipatory actions and shock responsive social protection, community climate resilience, resilient livelihoods and food security. Similarly, Strengthening Local Governance for Disaster-Resilient Communities in Nepal is a USAID/BHA funded project that supports in strengthening the resilience of local governments and communities in Siraha and Saptari through improved Risk Management Policy and Practice, Agriculture and Food Security and Economic Recovery and Market Systems.     National Climate Change Support Program (NCCSP) is a UNDP NIM Project. The project has envisioned for Climate Resilient Development Project (CRDP) approaches in 14 Palikas (one in each of the 14 NCCSP districts). The focus of the program under next one year will be in implementing priority climate resilient development sub-projects identified by each 14 Palikas in their plan, capacity development, helping them to embed climate resilience into their development plans for the next fiscal year as well as document learning of the project implementation under federal set up for future up-scaling. I am working as a regional Engineer in the project who will be supporting the 14 districts / Palikas in implementing climate resilient development projects. The major responsibilities are :  Ensure that Palika infrastructures funded under the project meet the climate resilient standards in design, implementation, cost and quality Prepare detailed design, cost estimate, work plan with milestones in collaboration with Palikas, NCCSP field team and other partners as required.  Provide regular technical back up and field monitoring visits to ensure that the implementation of the projects are proceeding as planned and trouble shoot as appropriate.  Provide necessary trainings to field staffs and implementing partners including Palika engineers/sub-engineers, planners etc. on how projects should be designed and implemented in a climate resilient manner, as required. Regularly review the contractual provisions between the project, Palikas, and implementing partners and ensure compliances Prepare regular updates and report on the progress including issues, risks and mitigating measures adopted.  Quality assurance of the infrastructures during implementation and ensure implementation as per the contractual provisions and milestones.
