Coordinate the engineering efforts on a Project working with the Project Engineering Manager. Interface with functional engineering groups and coordinate subcontracted suppliers of engineering deliverables on a complex, multi-partner project. Represent the Engineering Department on the Project Director’s project team. Since 2013 acting as Project Engineering Manager and Project Engineer. Coordinates all engineering phased during contract execution, of assigned domestic and/or international projects (project scope is substantial with high dollar value, often involving unusual multi-partner arrangements). Project success is highly dependent on incumbent’s effectiveness in coordinating various groups in a matrix environment. Directly affects the engineering efficiency on the project.

Managing the execution of the Erection of Boiler Plant, Electrical, I&C and Process Equipment, Commissioning and Start-up, and Operation of a Triple Pressure HRSG and advising the customer on all boiler plant related and interfacing issues.The project consists of two top supported, triple pressure, once through HRSG with a GT26 gas turbine and one common steam turbine.Because of special circumstances also managing the contract negotiations and set-up, manufacturing, quality control and logistics for delivery of two new boiler structures at a local manufacturer (first time manufacturer) in a record time of less than three month from contract award to delivery to site.

Alstom Site Manager and in country project manager for the project consisting of four (4) OCCTM, loose harp installation , triple wide, triple pressure HRSG. The project was fabricated in country for more than 85% at our partner Dillinger Steel Duisburg DSD in Cairo. The project was completely executed with local staff, managed only by the Alstom Site Manager. The project was delivered two (2) month ahead of schedule with more than 1 million man-hours of work with “no time lost time accident”

Execution and managing of the Boiler Plant Engineering effort during contract execution.The project consists of Phase I and Phase II, both 2 x 685 MW respectively 2 x 650 MW tangential coal fired, controlled circulation, sliding pressure drum boilers.

• To consult with GEC Alstom and its representatives regarding the development and analysis of information to support the delay event schedule process and to prevent the claim of liquidated damages from the consortium.• To furnish history information, advise or consult GEC Alstom in relation to the delay in completing the Shajiao ‘C’ Power Project.• To represent ABB-CE in the technical meetings between the employer for the Shajiao ‘C’ Power Project and GEC Alstom, and to advise GEC Alstom in all aspects related to the scope of supply by ABB-CE. • To participate in a Plant Reliability Review team to evaluate the commissioning and operation of the Shajiao ‘C’ Power Project and to recommend improvements to the owner for the future operation and maintenance.• To assist the Project Management Team of GEC Alstom and its legal advisors in developing strategies for the claim negotiations with the Shajiao ‘C’ Power Project employer and his representatives.

Execution and managing of the Boiler Balance of Plant (BOP) engineering effort during proposals and contract execution.Responsibilities :• Providing input to Project Engineering, Business Development and Proposal Development as required for Boiler BOP engineering issues during the proposal process including participation in technical contract negotiations with the client • Assuring that the BOP scope is clearly identified and defined so that the final proposal reflects the costs and risks associated with the BOP • Evaluating outside resources for getting BOP engineering executed • Managing subcontractors when BOP is outsourced making sure that work is done on schedule and as specified • Preparing specifications and engineering schedules • Preparing engineering studies and proformas relating to full turnkey projects • Assuring engineering documents and engineering requisitions relating to BOP conform to QA/QC requirements • Development of calculation schemata for supercritical boiler start-up systems with various heat recovery systems

The project consists of 3 x 660 MW tangential coal fired, controlled circulation, sliding pressure drum boilers. Responsibilities : • Development of test procedures for Performance Guarantee Tests, Plant Handling Trials and Reliability Trial Run • Determination and scheduling of pre-testing (optimization of unit performance) and testing activities • Co-ordination of activities with consortia partner, sub-contractors and commissioning departments • Supervision of optimization and testing activities • Evaluation of test results • Developing / improving of unit operating procedures • Negotiations with customer on acceptance of test procedures and test results • Fine tuning and control enhancements in unit control scheme

• Reported directly to the Power Station Manager • Responsible for unit optimization and achieving station targets such as reliability, availability, station performance and efficiency for KENDAL's 6 x 686 MW tangential coal fired, controlled circulation, sliding pressure drum boilers (built by ABB-CE) with dry cooling system. • Dealt directly with the main contractors namely ABB-Combustion Engineering (CEII, Steam Generators), ABB Industry (Controls) and Kraftwerk-Union (SIEMENS-KWU, Turbines) on enhancing system design and performance It should be pointed out, that the KENDAL units were modified with a new Reheater temperature Control Circuit based on gas mass flow control, mainly developed on my investigations and recommendations • Member of an evaluation committee of unit take-over negotiations within ESKOM's management team • Appointed as "Mister Control and Optimization" with the responsibility of evaluating, modifying if necessary and approving any modification proposed by any party to be implemented into the control system • Mentor for young Engineers in training on process control (one of them became the first native African person Power Station Manger in ESKOM’s history) • Lecturer on control basics and closed loop philosophies for Engineering Department engineers • Received Manager's Award presented by ESKOM for improvements and innovations in recognition of a contribution of exceptional value to ESKOM in the year 1992 (first time in ESKOM’s history that this award was ever given to a non ESKOM employee and foreigner)
