Rafael Serrano is the co-founder and managing director of Safe Harbor Equity, a Miami-based boutique private equity firm specializing in commercial and residential real estate. After more than a decade in private real estate investing, Serrano launched Safe Harbor Equity in 2005. Since, has has overseen hundreds of individual transactions. Safe Harbor focuses on performing and non-performing loans, defaulted debt instruments, and distressed real estate asset opportunities primarily in South Florida, though the company pursues investment targets elsewhere in the continental United States.After graduating from Florida International University, Serrano founded MTU, Inc., a commercial vehicle fleet maintenance and service provider with clients throughout South Florida. Subsequently, he served as a national corporate accounts manager for WorldCom, Inc., formerly MCI. He then worked as a business management and strategic consultant for British Aerospace Systems in South America. Rafael Serrano works with the Safe Harbor Equity team to maximize investor returns regardless of market environment. His firm acts as both principal and intermediary for managed accounts, participations, joint ventures, and partnerships, pursuing both single-note and loan pool acquisitions as appropriate.When he’s not pursuing real estate investment opportunities, Rafael Serrano is an active philanthropist. He supports a number of local and national charities, including Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center; the Ganley Foundation, an organization devoted to destigmatizing depression and other mental health conditions; and Best Buddies International, a nonprofit that supports members of the intellectual and developmental disability community.
