Digital Content Manager
Knoxville, Tennessee, United States
In my 21+ years at Scripps Networks / Discovery, I filled a variety of roles, starting as the building and remodeling editor for HGTV.com. I led the effort to develop and produce HGTV Ideas, HGTV's first email newsletter, which soon developed a subscriber base of several million people. I served as the liaison between the editorial staff and development team in the creation of a proprietary content management system, then trained new and existing staff on how to use it. I was brand manager for HGTVPro.com, a sister site to HGTV.com targeted to professionals in the building and remodeling industry. In that role, I led the effort to design the new site, wrote and edited web content, managed the email newsletter and social media accounts, produced online videos, and managed two national sweepstakes. When the site was rebranded as HGTVRemodels.com (and later incorporated into HGTV.com), I managed the Tier 2 project, which added long-tail SEO content to the website. By enhancing these pages with photo galleries and other content, I helped generate more than 100 million new pageviews, which resulted in an estimated $1 million in new revenue. Following a reorganization, I became part of the image team, where I helped improve metadata for images in order to improve website functionality. It was around this time that the Scripps websites transitioned to the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) content management system, which I became adept at using. I then trained new and existing employees (along with Discovery employees when Scripps was acquired by Discovery) on AEM as well as best practices for SEO and metadata. As part of the training, I produced written documentation as well as a series of how-to videos.
