About Ralph Ewig, Phd

I dedicate myself to the unyielding pursuit of technical truth, every single day. As a “future-proof” leader, I relentlessly embrace continuous improvement from a personal and organizational perspective. My background combines deep hands-on expertise with leadership at every level, and my multicultural upbringing gives me a global perspective and strong appreciation of diversity.I’m a life-long learner with a PhD in aerospace engineering from UW Seattle, and an MS in Business Management for experienced leaders (MSx) from Stanford. My first role out of college was in 2000 at Andrews Space (now Spaceflight), where I worked on a wide variety of space programs, including a role as the Principal Investigator for the Mini-MagOrion program with Sandia National Labs, working with the FAA/AIAA RLV Safety Group, contributing to the NASA Alternate Access to Space Station program, and developing a comprehensive space exploration architecture under NASA’s Project Constellation program. Following a five-year period as a partner with Holder Aerospace, I moved to SpaceX in 2010 as a Mission Operations Engineer focused on the Dragon spacecraft in the NASA Commercial Space Transportation Services (COTS) program. In 2012, I joined Aerojet as VP of Engineering for Sacramento, then transitioned to VP of Avionics following Aerojet’s acquisition of Rocketdyne, managing a team of over 300 engineers at 8 sites across the US. In 2014, I returned to school at the Stanford Graduate School of Business with the goal of starting my own company, and upon graduation founded Audacy – a spacetech startup aiming to provide anytime & seamless space connectivity utilizing a MEO based data relay constellation. While Audacy was ultimately unsuccessful, my entrepreneurial journey allowed me to grow in more ways than I ever imagined – with maybe the most valuable lesson being one of self-discovery. I am at my best when navigating complex systems challenges in time-critical situations. I excel when working with highly technical systems and teams, and my leadership style was profoundly shaped by my experience in the practice of spaceflight operations. I am thrilled about the present-day global renaissance in space activities and will continue to take great pride in contributing my abilities to humanity’s ongoing journey of exploration.
