Ralph was responsible for aligning this diverse international group around common business objectives and translating these into an innovative R&D Portfolio, which was critical to the success of CableLabs and the industry.CableLabs Technical Leadership: To accomplish this Ralph also lead the CableLabs R&D organization that is responsible for executing the CableLabs R&D Portfolio. This portfolio included the development of DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, & 4.0, Low-Latency technologies (both DOCSIS & Mobile Xhaul), Coherent Optics applications in the Access Network, advances in Wi-Fi technologies, Fixed-Wireless Convergence, Software Defined Networking, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Network Security, Holographic Imaging/Immersive Experiences, Technology Policy, Standards Strategy, and Certification Testing.Cable Industry Technical Leadership: CableLabs accomplishes it work by leading a collaboration of cable operators and their suppliers. In addition to many difficult technical challenges, there are the political complexities of aligning the interests of competitors and their customers. Under Ralph's skillful leadership the organization was able to deliver solutions across a broad spectrum of technologies.Global Standards Leadership: CableLabs participates in over 30 consortia and standard development organizations (SDOs) representing the interests of the cable industry. Ralph personally represented the cable industry at ITU-T, OCF, and DLNA. He also led the strategy to maximize CableLabs influence in these consortia and SDOs. CableLabs ability to impact international standards beyond just coax is critical to the competitive position of the industry. Technology Policy Leadership: Telecommunications is a regulated industry. The ability to translate technology to policy makers and provide clarity on the technical issues underlying policy decisions, is critical to the industry's success. Ralph represented the cable industry at the FCC and provided support for policy positions of the industry in the U.S. and Europe.
