In addition to many difficult technical challenges, there are the political complexities of aligning the interests of competitors and their customers. Under Ralph's skillful leadership the organization was able to deliver solutions across a broad spectrum of technologies.Global Standards Leadership: CableLabs participates in over 30 consortia and standard development organizations (SDOs) representing the interests of the cable industry. Ralph personally represented the cable industry at ITU-T, OCF, and DLNA. He also led the strategy to maximize CableLabs influence in these consortia and SDOs. CableLabs ability to impact international standards beyond just coax is critical to the competitive position of the industry. Technology Policy Leadership: Telecommunications is a regulated industry. The ability to translate technology to policy makers and provide clarity on the technical issues underlying policy decisions, is critical to the industry's success. Ralph represented the cable industry at the FCC and provided support for policy positions of the industry in the U.S. and Europe.

Upon first joining Time Warner I was responsible for technical and program management for the Time Warner Full Service Network trial in Orlando, Florida. My focus was on interactive television applications, including video-on-demand, interactive shopping, interactive network games, and an interactive program guide.

    During my last two years at Solbourne Computer, I managed a small group responsible for supporting Solbourne's software development environment; performing hardware and software test; integrating third-party products; conducting beta programs; and performing final product release. Prior to this I was Manager, Window Systems Group. My management responsibility during this year was for a small software group developing graphics and window systems including MIT X11, Sun X11/NeWS, and SunView. Our product was one of the highest performance graphics solutions in the workstation market, producing benchmark results that were faster than Sun Microsystems's SPARCStation 2 GX. My initial assignment at Solbourne Computer was as project lead for the development of two- and three- dimensional graphics microcode used in a high-performance graphics subsystem for Solbourne's desktop workstation. This microcode supported the X Window System with PEX extensions.
