After 37 years of service in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in key administrative roles, I am now looking at leveraging my experience in the corporate sector. The BRO, a part of the Indian Armed Forces under the Ministry of Defence, is a road construction executive force that provides connectivity to difficult and inaccessible regions in the country’s border areas.I joined BRO in the mid-1980s, and am retiring from the organisation on the last day of May 2022 as Joint Director (Administration).Border Roads Organisation has been a leader in infrastructure development in the border areas of the country for more than six decades for both peacetime and wartime needs. The BRO operates on the concept of military platoons, each with responsibility for a specific construction activity. The organisation’s history is studded with the execution of demanding projects that have included bridges, airfields, tunnelling and hydro-electric schemes. The BRO’s strengths are its departmental structure, access to modern technology and its indisputable reputation as an organisation that delivers irrespective of the challenges involved.In the course of my long career with the BRO, I was a part of the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) which forms the parent cadre of the Border Roads Organisation. My responsibilities were wide and varied, including- personnel [must be personnel, not personal] and administrative matters - safety and security of camps- welfare of troops- welfare of a large number of casual labourers- dealing with disciplinary and vigilance matters of all officers and subordinates- handling of court cases related to service matters- RTI cases- handling accounts and cash books- discharging duties of a Grievances Officer- liaising with state police and administrative authorities and the Labour Commissioner in cases of casual labourers.I have received the following Honours and Awards during my service career:2008: Director General Border Roads Commendation Card and Medal2011: Director General Border Roads Commendation Card and Medal2012: Director General Border Roads Commendation Card and Medal2022: Central Government Commendation Card and Medal.
