My role is a mix of very broad strategy work that involves leadership engagement, alignment and hands-on deep technical leadership in some areas.- Delivered the first ML based automated classification system for Harmonized tariff codes. Involved a lot of domain understanding, data collection, setting up sampling and spotchecking workflows, test datasets curation and model building. - Identify and build an internal Cloud Infrastructure Platform to allow multi-cloud mobility - worked with all the engineering VPs and CTO to get everyone's buy-in and show incremental progress. This was (and continues to be) a multi-year effort. Huge $ savings (in the order of few millions per year) and opportunity cost for the company. - Identify and build an internal developer platform on top of cloud infra platform to help with developer productivity, enforcing and adoption of broader engineering policies, provide portfolio assessment, etc. Early-mid stage of it's evolution. Full value yet to be realized.- Discover, Ideate and Design the active-active architecture for one of Avalara's core product offerings - involves working with various engineering stakeholders within/across the org, communicate effectively with CTO to ensure their concerns are addressed and design a solution that can be incrementally delivered. - Conceptualize, align, and deliver platform strategy amongst Engineering stakeholders, leaders and CTO- Oversee and provide strategic guidance on Engineering direction for the organization, reporting to Chief Architect (as part of the CTO's office)- Widely recognized within the engineering org as a good partner to work with and deliver cross-functional, cross-team deliverables where collaboration has been historically hard.

- Worked on end-end execution of Indix's data pipeline using Lambda Architecture to crunch billion+ records- Migrated an existing batch processing data ingestion layer to a streaming solution (kafka/samza/marathon) to provide 6x faster end-end turn-around time for new data to be made visible for customers- Built & Deployed large scale hierarchical classification model to solve product categorization problem (for ecommerce). Approx nodes: 10K in the taxonomy.- Built & deployed models for mining product attributes from ecommerce product titles- Conceptualized & built first version of real-time scheduler for crawling ecommerce portals that would adjust priorities dynamically & supports efficient recrawls- Suuchi - coauthored open source toolkit to build distributed systems from ground up. Presented the same in multiple conferences & meetups- Multiple OSS contributions - gocd-s3-artifacts, marathon-templates (for rendering _automated_ backend configs)- Actively involved in hiring across the board; actively mentored and groomed engineers to grow into dependable engineers- Managed multiple infrastructure systems - Hadoop and Kafka, rolled out internal patches and automated management.
