• Established the charter to unify the user experience and modernize the development stack of the Experience Cloud (in collaboration w/ former CEO of Livefyre)• Drove the integration of Livefyre Social Content and Realtime Experiences platform into the Experience Cloud offerings, while growing revenue and retaining customers

iCurrent launched in its next incarnation as Trove, a social aggregator product from the Washington Post. The Trove Facebook app peaked at over 40M users until the time for Facebook apps rapidly passed. After working with the team to launch Trove, I moved on to effectively an EIR role.

Raised $3M dollars in a seed parlayed into a small A to build a personalized news aggregator (using the advance ML, NLP, & UX technologies of previous experiences). Returned to hands-on software engineering (part of the *fun* of being a founder): implemented the personalization algorithms and content processing pipeline framework. This product achieved great engagement but we could not distribute to a large enough audience in time to merit raising more money. Acquired by the Washington Post in a fast process with two other well known competitors eager on the deal.

Intended originally to stay for a year to see a wide swath of deals come across the table and to support the technology and operational due dilligence but my own startup funded too fast

Scientific, engineering, product, or GTM strategy projects for a number of startups as I bootstrapped my own. These were typically companies interested in hiring me as CTO/VPE based on close relationships with CEOs or Board members.

An early-market leader in "Beyond Search" experiences. Should have been a search company. The world wasn't ready for us yet.• Spun out from Xerox PARC with a wealth of technology (an original sin). • Raised $55M in multiple rounds after the spinout from Xerox. • Closed many large ($M) deals with major ISVs, Internet search companies, electronic publishers, and media companies for the core technologies delivered as SDKs for clients and servers.• Delivered a range of products including desktop applications and enterprise server products for making sense of large amounts of content and data.• Played the CTO role in all its guises as needed at various stages: architect, engineer, VPE, Market Evangelist, Sales Engineer, gov R&D contract principal investigator, acquirer, and so on. Despite our innovation and wide influence on the industry, the company ultimately didn't succeed as a business and was acquired by Business Objects which was acquired by SAP shortly after.

Researcher focused on papers, patents, products, and industry impact. • Built a portable windows system and UX library that was incorporated into CLIM, the standard way to build portable UX in Common Lisp. • In the pioneering team that published the first papers on Information Visualization. • Authored many early papers and inventor of patents in information visualization, search, web extraction, digital libraries, and text analytics applications. • Collaborated with a number of business divisions to transfer core ideas into products. Ultimately, along with a Xerox GM, made the case to Xerox to spin a company out based on 50+ patents from the PARC research lab focused on HCI, AI, NLP, Search, and ML.

Startup that produced the first business presentation graphics programs for the IBM PC. Personally designed and implemented many innovative features including slide animations and transitions with primitives in 808X assembly language! Worked full-time while starting MIT graduate school.
