Working for the antique reproduction company Jamb Ltd, I was able to reproduce, finish and wire reproduced antique fixtures. My skills were used in the Metal & Lighting workshop, creating and reproducing fixtures that are hand finished in a choice of different finishes and are designed and wired for both external and internal use. The work created hopefully reflects the ambience of time and a product that reflects quality and craftsmanship.The concept of fabricated antique lighting is that it should look like it’s always been there, and one of the key factors in achieving this is through the finish by replicating existing antique collections. Developing the finishes through hand processing to establish an authentic patina, entrusted with creating surfaces that give the ambience of time – bringing to life lighting fixtures with a classic shape and timeless elegance.Trained in faithfully executing different finishes over a vast collection, the intention is to create bespoke solutions to all fixtures within the lighting collection in order to replicate the sentiment and feel of an antique light from the 18th, 19th or 20th century.Finishes studied, practised and trained in producing include verdigris, distressed gilt, antique brass, brown bronze, antique brown bronze, antique verdigris, roman bronze, antique copper and antique silver.An intrinsic and inherent balance is an essential part of the principles of scale and proportion that lie within the designs, and it is the finisher’s responsibility to adapt the lanterns to specific circumstances, climates and desired hanging weight – creating something that is beautiful and strong, yet refined.
