With over 45 years of experience in various sectors, I have been a leader and a catalyst for change in both public and private sectors across different areas in India. As a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1979 Batch, I have served in various capacities in the TN State Govt and Central Govt. I was Joint Secretary at the Department of Commerce, CMD of four government companies like TNPL, the second largest paper manufacturer of India and TIDCO, the Promoter and largest shareholder of TITAN. I have worked long years in the public health sector: in the Family Planning Programme in the 1980s and in the AIDS Control Programme in the 1990s. I worked in the World Bank to replicate all over India, the model I had developed and implemented in Tamil Nadu. This helped in India's HIV/AIDS problem was stopped at 0.5%, unlike in many other developing countries AIDS devastated an entire generation of adults with infection rates in double digits.After retiring voluntarily from the IAS in 2010, I joined the private sector as the CEO of Nagarjuna Oil Corporation Limited. I also advised several companies, such as Hyundai Motor India, IIFL, and Gamesa Wind Energy, on government relations and policy matters. I was President of Corporate Relations at Essar Group, one of the largest Indian multinationals. Most recently, I was President, Corporate Affairs at ReNew Power, India's leading renewable energy company.Currently, I am advising Hero Future Energies. I graduated with MSc in Chemistry from Loyola College, Chennai (1976) and a MS in Applied Demography from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles (1991). I was chosen as a MacArthur Foundation Fellow in 1996 for my work in public health and I am a Fellow of the Institute of Directors since 2013.
