    Broadly, I do research in the areas of Statistical Signal Processing and Pattern Recognition. Specifically, I have been exploring multimodal signal processing and fusion algorithms. Following are two projects I am/have been involved:1- Information theoretic learning based abstract feature extraction for multimodal pro-cessing. The aim of the project is to investigate performance limitations of self-organizing net-works for event detection in audio-visual stream. We are studying the use of recurrent NeuralNetwork (NN) instead of feed-forward NNs, which are consistently being used in literature.2- Multimodal fusion algorithms for voice activity detection. Multiple fusion algorithmstrategies are being studied for system containing Audio VAD and Visual VAD. Proposed VisualVAD algorithm is based on lip movement detection using simple yet robust feature i.e. averageintensity. Algorithms for both subsystems are entirely unsupervised and real-time. We haveproposed a fusion scheme dependent on confidence level of each sub-system.I also designed and co-taught a workshop on Sensor Fusion and Tracking Algorithms to employees of TARDAC (United States Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center).In Winter 2013, I co-taught a graduate course on Communication theory.

    As a Lab Engineer, I had two fold responsibility of working on developmental projects and teaching laboratory.Development Projects:1- Designed a standalone low cost equipment for measurement of muon life time. Front end analogVHF circuits (120 MHz) and customize embedded system containing CPLDs were developed forthe project. PCB was also designed.2- Designed and developed an experiment on 'Measurement of Speed of sound through different gases' which involved design of guided medium and circuitry for speakers and microphones.3- Developed an experiment on Band Structure and Electrical Conductivity in Semiconductors. I was responsible to program temperature controller. Solid state relay was used to control heating filament.I taught 'Data Acquisition and Filter Design' module to undergraduate students.
