Profile bio

About Ramelo Bruce Johnson

My Recovery journey started in 2001 at Baltimore Crisis Response Inc., In our cognitive behavior group, I realized that I wanted to not only be successful in my recovery process, but that I was awakened with the desire to Learn, and so I strive. I focused on studying all that I had the opportunity to obtain within the realm of Addiction. I left all distraction and enrolled into a structural environment(Transitional Housing J.H.R) where I could devote my attention to my classes at B.C.C.C and the recovery support groups that was provided. That was the beginning of My Journey, applying The Process of Recovery, the Stages of Change which I utilized in achieving My Goals. I was able to maintain my sobriety, even in the mist of health problems(Cancer), my Path took a Spiral, but I was NOT Discouraged, instead - It was a NEW Awakening, a way of realizing & understanding that Health & Wellness is an important part of the Holistic Process. This was later to be revealed as a Blessing. I've accepted that It was more than a "Inside-Out"Transformation Because, I have Evolved. My renewed Thinking created a different Attitude, My Attitude Displayed a better Behavior, and My Behavior inspired a whole new Perception of Who I Am. "In Life - What We See & Hear - We Learn. What We learn - We Practice, and those things that We Practice - well, We Become". I learned that through my life's experience, I was able to adapt, make changes, accept my new Ideas & Habits, and create a different perception on Life...I have Transcended. My situation & circumstances within me and around me had Changed. I've come full circle now after receiving the Education & Training in Drug Addiction & Relapse Prevention, Group Dynamics & Facilitation, Brain Disease & Disorders in the N.A.M.I Peer2Peer Classes and Support Groups. For Me, it was important to try and gain a basic level in the understanding of Both, Substance Abuse Disorder & Mental Health Dysfunction. Today, I'm an Advocate for Both.

Listed skills include Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Teaching, Counseling Psychology, and 12 others.

Recovery Support Group Facilitator

Current

Metro Nami Baltimore, Md.

Instruct and Direct peers on our daily Agenda, while applying the Group Guidelines and the "Principles of Support", I Monitored & Guided each one as they open up with an Introduction and brief description of what they are going through NOW,in the present, and to be mindful of respecting, without judging each-other, and to consider Time Management( unless - there is a crisis or what is called:Hot Potato) and then and only then - We bring Our attention back to the crisis issue, but only after everyone has opened with an Introduction. Finding Solutions and Alternatives for different situations, when dealing with Our Behavior(Mental Issues) is My priority. Bringing the group together, sharing & exploring our Experience with a common Problem. It's about utilizing Group Wisdom. Understanding how to use Our Experience & Our Chart: Stages of Emotional Response To Trauma, is the key that unlocks answers to certain questions. We have accepted that we are here to help each-other and learn how to manage our life-style and maintain a level of Wellness. And while I Volunteer at N.A.M.I as a Facilitator; I am still Interested in obtaining a Part-Time ( PAID )Position as a Behavior Therapist, Addictions(Recovery) Consultant in Substance Abuse, a Drug Education Mentor & Guide, or as a Facilitator in Principles of Addiction and Recovery techniques & Wisdom.

I started my Internship there during my spring semester at B.C.C.C, and continued that type of skilllearning and transformed my training into a Volunteer Position, for which I stayed on,becoming Pro-active in what was deem to be an addition to my own Recovery Process.I became a Group Leader within the Drug Education & Relapse Prevention classes, assisting one of the Counselors with his facilitation of the Groups. As time went on, and while completing more Training in the realm of Behavioral Health, I was awarded the opportunity to Co-Facilitate, and in 2011 assisted the Clinical Supervisor with establishing the original Format of Glenwood Lifes Orientation Class for those clients who were new to our Treatment and Recovery Policy at the Counseling Center. And in October 2012, I was privileged to organize and coordinate a Pilot Group called: Peer2Peer Recovery & Support Group and was honored as the groups principle Mentor, Facilitator, and Guide. Within 4 or 5 months, I had started Training other peer supporters, to become Advocates, Peer Leaders & Co-Facilitators, and since March of 2014, they are heading their own Peer2Peer groups twice a week, displaying the concept of "Each One - Teach One".
