My desire is to assist first-generation/low-income students by guiding them through their study abroad journey. Having had the experience of being a first-generation low-income student myself, I have a desire to help students find academic and funding opportunities that will enhance their academic experience. I also have a high interest in working within the international student community with their new cultural environment and with adjusting. I completed my B.A. in Global Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I also have completed a Chinese minor and Peace Studies Certificate. I initially began my higher education career by completing my A.A. at the College of Lake County before I transitioned into a four-year university. I have had three international study experiences. I studied abroad in 2014 for three weeks in Ehime, Japan through the College of Lake County completing a course in linguistics. In June 2017, I had the privilege of being selected as a participant in a US-China delegation trip through the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Then from August 2017 to June 2018, I studied abroad in Suwon, South Korea where I also had the experience of being a volunteer English tutor at an English-language academy where I tutored five students one-on-one. I love the challenge, creativity, and intellect required to interact across cultures. I especially enjoy cross-cultural interaction that exposes my bicultural identity as a Mexican-American woman that is bilingual.I have professional and personal interests in immigration history and policy, intercultural exchanges, NGOs, diplomacy, and public policy as well as student affairs.
