With my prior experience as a Website Manager, I looked towards the Digital Marketing industry as a career option and in September 2020, I completed a digital marketing traineeship which gave me a Level 2 in imaging and website software. I switched my career to computer engineering as I was more interested in that field, and it interested me more than digital marketing. This is when I started my apprenticeship as an infrastructure technician. Here I built up a lot of my strongest skills such as communication, adaptability, problem finding and solving, independence and teamwork. Within 4 months of working at Affordable Mac, I was rewarded with a pay rise due to how fast I had learnt the ins and outs of the company and my primary tasks. I started by refurbishing iMacs which I soon took over and started managing that area of the company. A few months later, I started running the refurbishment of iPads and Apple peripherals such as keyboards and mice. Towards the end of my first year, I had taken a more senior position and became the deputy manager of all refurbished products. While doing this, I was studying my apprenticeship course and passed every exam and ultimately lead to passing my final exam and being a qualified tech.After achieving my Level 3 Infrastructure Tech, I progressed my career and in November 2022, I started my Level 4 Cyber Security Engineer apprenticeship at Simply Business. I was hired as the Cyber Security Apprentice in the SOC team. After the first 3 months, I took on a Tier 1 role which started with triaging, investigating and responding to phishing emails, breaches in our IDS and EDR. As I progressed with this Tier 1 role, I began to pick up more Tier 2 tasks such as leading incidents and vulnerability management. Tier 1 and 2 tasks have greatly expanded my problem solving, communication, analytical and adaptability skills. They have also helped with the way I combat and face stressful situations and how to think clearly and analytically to solve the situation. I have also greatly progressed my skills using IDS, EDR, SOAR, Vulnerability Management and Threat Intelligence tools which I use on a regular basis. My role within the SOC has expanded to include more project led tasks as I recently took the lead on a Proof Of Concept for a SOAR application as well as leading and conducting a SOX audit on a part of the SOC team every quarter. For which I received feedback from auditors such as "this is OUTSTANDING" and "PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT".
