Student-PreneurRamco Technologies Sep 1998 - Sep 2001I was in the middle of under-grad, assembled a team of students and like minded aspiring software engineers, built and sold custom ERP software for small scale retail export houses in greater Chennai. We were a team of 5, I was the lead student-preneur. We built Java WAP application (1998) for RPG a telecom company and a desktop ERP software for a Garment manufacturer. Our ERP software was a big hit and the union decided to buy the entire rights. We rented desktop computers and ran this successfully for 2 years. After settling for the rest of the team, I was break-even. I lost my team to Y2K buzz and folks that wanted to chase American dreams. My first startup experience, I still remember every architecture and strategic decisions we made. In one of the tiring and brain draining time we sat down as a team and discussed one day, the entire software development and tech heavy lift will be free - meaning not just low code or no code but free code.
